The Best Family Holidays In Scotland

Jaw-dropping mountain scenery. Epic coastal seascapes. Iconic destinations. Award-winning hospitality. If that all sounds like a checklist for your dream holiday ticket, then head to Scotland with your family this spring, summer or autumn.

For take-your-breath-away landscapes, there really are few more spectacular places to visit than Scotland. It’s certainly not the sort of place you can visit without packing your camera, that’s for sure.

A hugely popular holiday destination for staycations, Scotland has so much to offer for families and couples alike. All four of the Best of British holiday parks in Scotland are family friendly with plenty of opportunities for relaxing or active breaks.

South West Scotland

This a popular region and it’s easy to see why. Culture, castles, seafood, scenery… the list goes on!

The South West corner is made for road-trippers so we certainly suggest you spend some time planning your days before you get behind the wheel and head-off. In truth there’s so much to explore along this corner, and further up the West Coast, that you simply have to come back time and again.

Here you will find two of our Best of British parks; Brighouse Bay Holiday Park and Auchenlarie Holiday Park, both of which are located right on the coast.

Dumfries and Galloway is a special place. Boasting an undulating coastline and sandy beaches alongside acres of forest and green spaces, it’s well worth spending some time here.

Visit the many distilleries such as Bladnoch at Newton Stewart and sample some of the finest whiskies or soak up some culture and history by visiting the striking Caerlaverock Castle, one of Scotland’s great medieval fortresses with its moat and twin towered gatehouse.

This region is also home to some rather special destinations, where your camera really does have to be by your side at all times. If you’ve got a head for heights then one of those must-see locations has to be the Mull Of Galloway Lighthouse, Scotland’s most southerly lighthouse – which is perched on the edge of a 260ft high cliff – and boasts the best views in South West Scotland.

The Home of Golf

In truth we could dedicate a whole feature to golf holidays in Scotland (and we promise that, one day, we will!). If you love nothing more than a round on a stunning golf course then there is no finer destination than Scotland, after all it is the home of legendary course designer James Braid, who designed over 200 courses in his time.

Perhaps the most famous of all Scotland’s golf courses is St Andrews, known as the ‘Home Of Golf’. This iconic setting has witnessed some incredible sporting moments over the decades. But did you know that it is open to the public to play?  For children, there is a specially dedicated area.

Handily, The Paddocks in Renfrewshire is located only an hour away from this magnificent course, so you can go from caravan to tee in 60 minutes!

Explore Picturesque Cities

It’s hard to get away from Scotland’s spectacular coast and country scenery but it has another trick up its sleeve for holiday visitors – some amazing architecture.

No visit to Scotland is complete without visiting its cities including the capital, Edinburgh. One of the UK’s most beautiful cities, Edinburgh is simply a must visit. With great shopping and fantastic cultural and historic offerings such as Arthur’s Seat and Edinburgh Castle. You can spend days exploring all this city has to offer.

Further north and the cities of Perth and Dundee are also well worth a visit. Dundee is known as Scotland’s sunniest city. Not only is it a UNESCO City of Design but it’s also home to the V&A Dundee, the world’s only V&A museum outside of London. Spend some time visiting the shops, theatres, arts centres and wonderful bars and restaurants. You won’t be disappointed.

To the east lies the city of Perth, which was Scotland’s ancient capital for 500 years. Now described as a “sparkling cosmopolitan gem”, Perth lies on the banks of the River Tay and is home to an array of art galleries, museums and historic monuments. If you’re looking for a unique shopping experience then Perth also delivers on this front, too!

Blair Castle Caravan Park is located in Perthshire and is the perfect base for exploring!
